This past week a group from Beth-El traveled to Philadelphia on our inaugural women’s trip. We learned about the history of Jewish immigrants who came to the city and followed the growth and transformation of the community from neighborhood to neighborhood. We visited at least 5 synagogues, culminating in a tour of Beth Sholom, Frank Lloyd Wright's only synagogue building.
Our travels were a balm for our
battered souls in these turbulent times. The stories of the Philadelphia community mirror our own. Challenge, hope, and triumph were repetitive themes as we relived the resilience of our people through war and antisemitism, many eventually achieving the American dream. Each step of our journey reminded us of how grateful we are for our own beautiful building and the loving community within.
We were able to join a 5000-person strong Israel solidarity March in Independence National Historical Park. We keenly felt the teaching of our rabbis that “kol yisrael aravim zen b’zeh—all the people of Israel are responsible one for the other.” At a time when as Jews, we feel more isolated than ever, we were reminded that we are never really alone, knowing we are connected to Jews around our nation and our world.
Our Beth-El community is here for all of you. We hope you will join us on Shabbat and beyond as we find comfort and joy in living our Judaism loudly and proudly.
