If you have helped to welcome new members of the Temple at the new member shabbat, have heard any of our informative Sunday breakfast speakers or attended a comedy evening and deli dinner with the Brotherhood, you have a sense of how important the Brotherhood is to the Temple Beth-El community. Through our many volunteer and charitable activities, we serve the entire Temple community.

Brotherhood and MRJ Centennial Celebrations
This year the Brotherhood celebrates our Centennial, making us one of the longest-lived Brotherhoods in the nation!  We were one of five original Brotherhoods that formed the National Federation of Temple Brotherhoods, now known as Men of Reform Judaism (MRJ).   We’ll have a formal Centennial celebration dinner next April, including the Lindenbaum Person of the Year presentation. And the Brotherhood will act as host brotherhood, and Temple Beth El will act as host synagogue, for MRJ’s own Centennial celebration next June, which will include a Brotherhood-themed Friday night Shabbat service with a nationally known speaker.

Brotherhood Yom Hashoah Candles

Yom HaShoah, Holocaust Remembrance Day, is observed as Israel’s day of commemoration on the 27th of Nisan on the Hebrew calendar, which begins at sundown on Monday, April 17th. This date marks the anniversary of the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising. The concept of a special yellow yahrtzeit candle to be lit in remembrance was developed in the late 1970s and expanded via men’s clubs including MRJ (Men of Reform Judaism), and temple Brotherhoods, including our Temple Beth-El Brotherhood. This has become an annual national fundraising activity. This year we have decided to provide Yom HaShoah Yellow Candles at no cost for each of our Religious School families with children in 5th grade or older. Additionally, we are offering remaining candles to any of our Temple members on a first come, first served basis until our purchased stock is depleted.

Please send an email to Elliott Pritikin requesting your candle for pick-up at the Temple office epritikin@teknorapex.com. Donations to Temple Beth-El Brotherhood in support of our philanthropic activities are appreciated.
