On this Shabbat Zachor (Shabbat of Remembrance), the Shabbat preceding Purim, God commands us to both remember what Amalek, our enemy, did to us while simultaneously erase him from our memory (Deut. 25:17-19). Amalek was the ancestor of Haman, the evil Prime Minister, in the story of Esther. And I know, for a fact, that many of you will be helping me blot out Haman’s name loud and long this Monday evening as we celebrate Purim. This year, our talented cast will retell Megillat Esther to the music of Billy Joel in “Shushan State of Mind.” You don’t want to miss this one!
And to keep the silliness of Purim continuing for just a little longer, please join us on March 10 at 7 p.m. for a Broadway Shabbat. I will be joined by Joie and Zach Magnone in addition to Philip Martorella on keyboard as we travel through the service along the Great White Way.
