This week’s Torah portion is filled with the sacred tales of our tradition. We learn about Abraham greeting three visitors, demanding justice from God at Sodom and Gomorrah, the birth of Isaac and Ishmael and the trials and triumphs of Sarah and Hagar. All of these stories share a commitment to a future infused with blessing and transformation. In fact, the very name of the portion, Vayera, comes from the Hebrew root meaning “to see”. It challenges us to cultivate our own vision—one inspired by generations past and by our own dreams and aspirations.
Vayera is a reminder to us to have faith in the journey yet to come. It teaches us that through our actions we are God’s partners, bringing justice, empathy and compassion to the world. We are invited to lift our eyes like the matriarchs and patriarchs to glean perspective and hope.
We invite you to join us this evening as we celebrate Rabbi Neimeiser’s installation. His presence is a distinct joy that marks a new phase in the history of Temple Beth-El. Inspired by our history and tradition we too lift our eyes and see a future bright with promise. Shabbat Shalom! Sarah
