The Israelites, under Moses’ supervision, have begun the detailed construction of the Mishkan, the portable Tabernacle, while journeying through the wilderness. In this week’s Torah portion, Ki Tisa, the Israelites build the infamous Golden Calf while waiting with fear, anxiety and probably a good amount of impatience in anticipation of Moses’ descent from Mt. Sinai. We can all agree that
building an idol of worship was a bad idea.
Here, at Temple Beth-El, we are building community. What could be more exciting?! Our Hallelu Band has increased steadily with three new musicians this year joining our group once a month in the sanctuary. Our Purim spielers, both adults and kids, have also increased in number and, for this, I am so grateful. We have been blessed with extra rehearsal time and more opportunities to build relationships with the additional month of Adar II.
On Sundays, our Tefilah Band has grown so much in both participation and experience, it makes me very proud of our teens. Over the weekend of March 29-31, singer/songwriter Dan Nichols will be our scholar-in-residence. Dan will participate and speak at the Joint Reform Shabbat Service on March 29th, spend a good amount of time with local and regional teens during the weekend’s regional NFTY-NE Spring Conclavette and lead Tefilah on Sunday morning with our students.
May you find your people here in a way that suits your needs and desires. In this way, we can build a stronger Jewish community fueled by love, respect and commitment.
“La yehudim hayta orah v’simcha v’sasson vikar!” For the Jews there was light and gladness, joy and honor” (Esther 8:16)
