I saw a story online this week that spoke to me about our times…
A teacher brought balloons to school and asked the children to blow them all up and then each write their name on their balloon. They tossed all the balloons into the hall while the teacher mixed them from one end to the other. The teacher then gave them 5 minutes to find the balloon with their name on it. The children ran around, looking frantically but as the time ran out - nobody had found their own balloon…
Then the teacher told them to take the balloon closest to them and give it to the person whose name was on it. In less than 2 minutes everyone had their own balloon.
Finally the teacher said, “Balloons are like happiness. No one will find it looking for only theirs. Instead, if everyone cares about each other’s, they will find theirs as quickly as possible.”
This story reflects our mission of being “joyful, communal and accessible” and the message is more clear than ever during this time of uncertainty - we need to take care of each other. This is something we continue to work on in the absence of being together as a TBE family.
Last week, during an all school zoom call, Rabbi Mack taught our students about the tradition of counting the Omer – the 49 days between Passover and Shavuot. She encouraged everyone to count the things they are grateful for and the things they look forward to when we can be back together. This word cloud is a collection of their responses. Of course they mentioned things like the bagel café, seeing their teachers and being with friends, but if you look closely, you will also see many responses which show just how well our students understand the value of taking care of one another.
So I pose the question to you…what is the one thing you are counting on when we can be together again?

Sunday, May 3, 2020 2:00 PM Sisterhood Discussion of Unorthodox
There is some interest in watching Unorthodox on Netflix and then getting together to discuss the first two episodes when we would have been gathering for the Joanne Forman Film Festival. If that goes well and there's interest, we can take another two weeks and watch the last two episodes and discuss the following week. We had attempted to use Netflix Party to watch together, but it is a fairly complicated process - you need to watch on a computer (laptop or desktop) not a device - and you need to download the Netflix Party app on Chrome. So, if you'd like to participate, watch at your own pace. Those who don't have Netflix could take advantage of a free 30 day trial which would give you plenty of time to watch the entire series - click here for link to the trial.
