John is a native Rhode Islander and has spent most of his career working to clean up and protect the coastal waters. Prior to coming to The Nature Conservancy, John worked for 18 years for Save The Bay where he served as Narragansett Baykeeper and Director of Advocacy. He joined the Conservancy as Director of Ocean and Coastal Conservation in 2011, where he worked to advance coastal water quality, habitat restoration, and led the organization’s coastal conservation programs and projects in Rhode Island and regional work across southern New England. John was named State Director in early 2017. The Nature Conservancy is the world’s largest conservation organization with offices serving all 50 states and 79 countries working in collaboration around the world. As State Director, John leads a dynamic staff of 30 people in Rhode Island working to advance conservation in and from Rhode Island for all of nature. John is also a Beth-El Bar Mitzvah class of 1983 and father of William and Caroline.
