Membership and Outreach
The individuals who comprise our 1,000 families constitute an eclectic and energetic group and come from all walks of life – they are professors, doctors, business people, students, artists, musicians and social workers. They include Brown University students and great-grandparents, first generation Americans and lifelong Rhode Islanders. We are proud of our legacy of multiple generational families, some of whom can trace their roots back to our temple’s beginning in 1854. While the bonds of Reform Judaism keep us connected, our congregants – interfaith families, Jews by choice, individuals who grew up in different movements of Judaism, single, married, or divorced – come together to weave a rich and welcoming tapestry. With such a diverse membership, our programs, holiday celebrations, lifelong learning opportunities and prayer services offer something for everyone. We invite you to join with us as we celebrate the rich heritage of the Reform Jewish movement and to become a part of Temple Beth-El, a strong and vibrant beacon of Reform Judaism in southern New England.

We encourage you to visit Temple Beth-El at any time during the year and to attend any of our special events for prospective and new members. In the summer, new and prospective members will enjoy a Sizzlin’ BBQ before our August Shabbat Under the Stars. Each fall, before the High Holy Days, Temple Beth-El hosts an open house for families and individuals who may wish to join our synagogue. In January, we host the Ruth Cohen New Member Brunch to welcome our new members and encourage their participation in the synagogue’s rich and diverse offerings.
