TEMPLE BETH-EL COMMITTEES

You are Temple Beth-El. The twelve hundred member families who pray, learn, socialize and experience life cycle events together are Temple Beth-El.

Members are enriched by adult education, children are nurtured in our religious school, doors of Jewish possibility are opened to interfaith families, and young adults gather to meet new friends.

For nearly a century and a half, Beth-El, the oldest temple in Providence, has been the spiritual home for generations of Reform Jewish Families. The reason is you, your family and families like yours whose participation is our strength.
COMMITTEE MISSION
Adult Enrichment Promotes lifelong learning for the congregation.
Benefactors Planning Members of the Benefactors Planning Committee sponsor special Benefactors Evenings for the congregation. A steering committee makes the arrangements for exciting speakers or entertainment that our members might not have the opportunity to hear or see elsewhere.
Cemetery Oversight To maintain the dignity and sanctity of the final resting place of Temple Beth-El members through the proper management and operation of the Temple’s cemetery on Reservoir Avenue. A brief history of the cemetery
Charitable Gift Planning Manages the use of large charitable donations for the greatest beneift to the Temple.
College Outreach Funded by the Temple Beth-El Sisterhood, this committee serves as a connection between young college adults and their home congregation, Temple Beth-El. Our hope is to provide one more component in a combined effort to help our children maintain their Jewish identity.
Communication Advisory Board To work with staff to help coordinate written communications to members, including oversight of the Temple’s web page. This committee was established last year.
Daily Minyan Daily Minyan Committee members are present in our chapel, six evenings each week to serve as a minyan to say Kaddish for the departed and to offer solace and companionship to the bereaved. Temple members may call us with the names of those dearly departed to be read at the conclusion of services. We welcome all who may be interested to join us. Check our schedule: Worship Services Schedule. Please note: Between Shavuot and the conclusion of Simchat Torah, the Torah Daily Minyan service is held seven days a week at 5:45 p.m. (There is no 7:45 p.m. service on Fridays during this time.)
Financial There are several committees that deal with the Temple finances, including the Budget and Finance committees. Together, they oversee the Temple finances.
Fine Arts The acquisition and preservation of art to enhance the beauty of our temple is the provenance of the Fine Arts Committee. We are proud of the acquisitions we have commissioned and purchased through the generosity of our temple donors. On occasion, we arrange for artists to speak to the congregation about their works.
Hineinu Arranges visits to elderly or infirm congregants in need of companionship.
House Policies Provides oversight of the Temple’s building and grounds.
Investment Manages the Temple's investments.
William G. Braude Library The Temple Library houses one of the largest and most extensive Judaic collections. The Committee works with the librarian to promote, maintain, and raise funds for the library.
Membership Helps recruit and integrate new members and helps retain existing membership.
Interfaith Family Outreach Reaches out to couples in an interfaith partnership or marriage. This is a newly revitalized committee.
The School Board Oversees the largest Reform religious school in the community and the largest Jewish educational institution in the state. The committee works with professional staff to help set policies, curriculum, and fundraising events.
Social Action Brings to our congregation opportunities to work towards fulfillment of the Jewish mandate for social justice.
Helen Donig Talking Books Provides books on tapes for blind and handicapped “readers”. The tapes are aired via Insight closed-circuit radio and RI Access TV. The are also available through our Temple’s Braude Library.
Ushers Enables the worship services and special programs to run smoothly and efficiently.
Young Families & K'Tan Tan Provides opportunities for families to participate in activities at Temple Beth-El that help our younger members gain an understanding of Shabbat and other Jewish holidays in fun and welcoming ways. There are two components; school-aged dinners and Shabbat services, and K'Tan Tan, programs for children under five years of age.
